The excellent Akropolis Reed Quintet brings the gift of music to students throughout Michigan this fall, with a 10-school educational tour (funded through a great Kickstarter campaign). The tour launched early this month at the Ypsilanti Middle School (see pictures of the educational residency here).

Regular concert appearances include Grand Valley State University – where they offered a concert, an audience talk-back session, and a composers studio class — and at Wright State University on Nov. 23.

Dedicated to expanding the reed quintet repertoire, Akropolis has a number of ongoing commissioning projects, including Project Sonata, an endeavor challenging composers to create new works inspired and shaped by the traditional sonata format.  A earlier Akropolis commissioning project, Unraveled, has been recorded and will be released as a commercial album in March 2014.  Look for more information about the disc from us soon!
