The illuminating, quicksilver pianist  Jenny Q Chai returns to the New York arts nightclub (le) Poisson Rouge on January 21 to play a program interleaving selections from Gyorgy Kurtag’s Játékok  with works by Debussy, Bach, and Marco Stroppa (specifically his “Ninnananna” from his cycle Miniature Estrose.  Watch video of Chai playing “Ninnananna” here.)

Stroppa is a composer with whom Chai has a long history of performance, collaboration, and study, and on January 23 she leads a discussion about his work and influences at the Manhattan School of Music’s Composers Forum.  The presentation will be based on her theatrical lecture-demonstration, Dissecting Stroppa, in which she offers rich insight into Stroppa’s work and influences.  Learn more about her work with Stroppa in this I Care If You Listen interview.

Next week, on November 30 in Shanghai, Chai — who founded and leads  FaceArt Music InterNations – performs on the FaceArt  Faculty Concert along with Piotr Tomasz (piano) and Cole Ingraham (electronics).
