This week the irrepressible Akropolis Reed Quintet hits the road for the Fischoff Chamber Music Association Gold Medal tour, offering concerts in five different Midwest locations – including the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago, the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at Notre Dame, Wheaton College, Wabash College, and at Culver Academies.   This tour comes as part of their Fischoff Gold Medal award, won last May, with a brilliant performance you can watch here.

This tour comes on the heels of an August trip to Germany for the Summerwinds Internationales Holzbläser Festival, where Akropolis led a two-day workshop, “Perfect Reeds” (check out their extensive educational offerings here) and performed “Under the Influence”, a concert of popular-music-influenced classical music.

Speaking of Akropolis’ educational offerings and collaborations with Fischoff, they were also awarded Fischoff’s 2015 Educator Award.  As part of this prize, Akropolis will offer a week of community outreach programs in the South Bend region during the spring of 2015.
