An artist of electrifying vision and intellect, pianist Jenny Q Chai is known for her expressive technique and for the beauty of her programming, which explores the intersections of music with artificial intelligence, history, visual art, and technology
After years of intense collaboration, Chai is thrilled to present her latest large-scale project combining sound and video installations based on the global warming data of NASA jet propulsion scientist Dr. Ian Fenty, Acqa Alta (High Water). Watch Jenny’s brand new promotional video release of Acqua Alta here. The partnership with Dr. Fenty focuses on the effects of global warming on Earth’s oceans. Jenny wrote a spectacular guest blog post on The Log Journal, the online publication of National Sawdust written and curated by music critic Steve Smith.
Jenny is also featured on the a transcendent recording of works by composer Cindy Cox called Hierosgamos: Studies in Harmony and Resonance (Arpaviva Recordings inc), to be released next week. The recording includes Playing a round for two pianos, performed by Jenny Q Chai and Piotr Tomasz; and solo piano works Hierosgamos and The blackbird whistling/Or just after, performed by pianist (and fearless leader of Ariel Artists!) Oni Buchanan.
Chai will next develop her exhilarating all-French program Sonorous Brushes in Paris as part of her residency at La Cité internationale des arts. Sonorous Brushes explores the magical meeting of music and art. It will receive its world premiere at musikpunkt koeln on May 7, and will be touring in 2017/18!
Of special note, Jenny recently premiered and toured Andy Akiho’s Piano Quintet, Five Prospects of a Misplaced Year, with the Friction Quartet and participated in the memorial concert for pianist and her beloved teacher Seymour Lipkin at Weill Recital Hall.
