Dubbed “technically superb” by The Strad, the Tesla Quartet has had a busy summer touring Europe and wrapping up the recording of their debut CD.

During their wildly successful European tour of Hungary and Germany, the Quartet had the unique experience of performing in the Esterházy Castle with the Haydn String Quartet Festival. They had the honor of playing for a member of the Esterházy family, who regaled the Quartet with stories of Joseph Haydn himself!

As part of their European escapades, the Quartet also performed with the Armida Quartet at Seebruecke Sellin in Germany as part of Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Looking forward, Tesla will begin their third season as the quartet-in-residence with the Western Piedmont Symphony on September 22 and look forward to their four performances this season!

Their debut album, which will be released this fall, includes Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 54, No. 2; Ravel’s String Quartet in F major; Stravinsky’s Concertino; and Tesla violinist Ross Snyder’s arrangements of selected Menuets by Ravel. Grammy Award-winning producer Andrew Keener and sound engineer Simon Eadon — who have also recorded and produced the albums of Tesla’s mentors, the Takács Quartet — are hard at work on the final polishing edits of the record. Take a look at the behind-the-scenes video recorded by cellist Serafim Smigelskiy.

Tesla will also announce their Call For Scores 2017 this October. Stay tuned for more information about how to submit a score and the rules for submission!
